The New York Yankees are reportedly exploring a trade that would send pitcher Marcus Stroman and first baseman/catcher Ben Rice to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for second baseman Davis Schneider.
Trade Pitch Has Yankees Dealing Stroman & Rice to Rival for Replacement
This proposal comes after the Yankees lost their starting second baseman, Gleyber Torres, to the Detroit Tigers in free agency, creating a significant gap in their infield.
Davis Schneider, who debuted with the Blue Jays in 2023, had a challenging 2024 season, hitting just .191 over 135 games.
Despite this, the Yankees may see potential in Schneider to rebound and fill the void left by Torres.
On the other side, Marcus Stroman, who joined the Yankees on a two-year, $37 million contract, had a 4.31 ERA over 154 2/3 innings in the 2024 season.
His performance was notably better on the road, with a 3.09 ERA, compared to a 5.31 ERA at Yankee Stadium.
Ben Rice, a versatile player capable of covering both first base and catcher positions, would provide the Blue Jays with additional depth.
This trade could be beneficial for both teams, addressing specific needs: the Yankees would acquire a potential replacement for Torres, while the Blue Jays would bolster their pitching rotation and add depth to their lineup.
However, it’s important to note that this trade is currently a proposal and has not bee n finalized.
