Rangers told to splash £6m on Ibrox signing, ‘guaranteed success’

Rangers supporters remain in the dark over their side’s transfer budget this season, as their US-backed takeover continues to progress in the background.

It was revealed on Wednesday (23 April) that “productive conversations” were taking place between the existing major shareholders at Ibrox and the seemingly imminent regime of Paraag Marathe’s 49ers Enterprises and insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh

Added investment will boost Rangers’ opportunities to move forward both on and off the pitch, and fans are desperate for funds to be made available to whomever the new manager turns out to be.

Rangers urged to commit £6million for ‘guaranteed success’

Rangers’ incoming new owners know the pressure will be straight on their shoulders from the second they walk through the door and claim their 51 per cent controlling stake of the Light Blues.

Barry Ferguson has taken the managerial reins in the wake of Philippe Clement’s February sacking but finds his permanent future in major doubt, with other candidates likely to be considered by Marathe and Cavenagh, alongside new sporting director Kevin Thelwell.

Michael Grant: Celtic will be thrilled if this Ibrox-linked manager is hired by Rangers

Thelwell will join from Everton in the summer and oversee the footballing operations in Govan, including not just the new manager but signings, too.

Former Rangers man Scott Arfield has insisted among the players Gers must look to retain, the most important is Wolfsburg loanee Vaclav Cerny – who is available on a permanent deal for £6million.

The Czech international winger, 27, has made 24 goal contributions in all competitions this season including some magical moments.

Arfield has explained that if Gers are willing to splash out £4.5million for promising but injured youngster Oscar Cortes, then a deal for Cerny should be a given.

“It looks like Rangers are going to have to dig deep to get the Czech ace,” he told the Daily Record (24 April).

“But if the club is willing to pay £4.5million for someone with Cortes’ potential, why not pay £6m for someone almost guaranteed to be a success?

“Cerny has been the team’s best player by a mile this season and so long as he’s committed to the project, I’d have him back.”

Cerny needs to be a Gers player next season

Many loanees have come and gone at Ibrox and found the pressure of either Rangers’ support or the Scottish game as a whole not right for them.

Cerny is the opposite – he has been taken into the hearts of the blue half of Glasgow and has supplied some superb times to the fans in the middle of a tough and arduous season.

Arfield is right. To invest 75 per cent of Cerny’s permanent clause on Cortes – for all the young forward’s talent – but then opt out of a move for Cerny himself would be a dangerous move.

Cerny is proven; he seems to have enjoyed his football at Ibrox; he would cost a lot less than many would who are likely to have contributed fewer goals and assists for Rangers with the same

Rangers may look to part ways with Ianis Hagi in the summer transfer window after what has been an uneventful campaign for the Romanian.

Rangers‘ season is over. They have nothing left to play for domestically, and a defeat against Athletic Club ended any hopes they had left of winning silverware under Barry Ferguson.

With that in mind, planning will have already started at Ibrox across several departments to make the changes needed to progress next season.

Not only will Barry Ferguson’s successor need to be identified swiftly, but the recruitment of incoming players and the exits of current players will also need to be considered, and Hagi’s future will be one of the decisions made in Glasgow.

Scott Arfield tips Hagi for summer exit from the Light Blues

Hagi has had a rather frustrating season for Rangers for several different reasons. The Romanian probably hasn’t received as much gametime as he would have liked, but at the same time, he hasn’t shown enough on the occasions he has been afforded the chance.

The Rangers playmaker has already been in talks over an exit from Ibrox this summer, and Scott Arfield thinks that his time as a Light Blue player is approaching the end.

Hagi has offered little this season.

Writing via the Daily Record, the former Rangers star said: “He’ll be a big miss with his technical ability. I could never work out which of his feet was his strongest. Ianis can not only strike a ball as well with his left foot as his right – as we saw at Pittodrie last week – but he can dribble off both sides with equal ease.

“But with his deal expiring after a wages wrangle at the start of the season, it’s probably time for a parting of the ways.”

As much quality has he has, it feels like Hagi will certainly be on his way out of Rangers this summer, though it will leave a gap that will need to be filled once the window opens.

Rangers have no margin for error this summer

Ever since the departure of Steven Gerrard, who has already been tipped for a sensational return to Rangers, they have looked light years away from competing with Celtic domestically, and that needs to change as a matter of urgency.

Recruitment will be crucial, especially with several players expected to depart from Ibrox in the coming months

After the failures of the current campaign, the Light Blues cannot afford to make a single step in the right direction, showcasing the need for early plans to be initiated.
