Manager Daniel Farke has spoken of the importance of Leeds United getting their transfer business done early this summer. The 6-0 demolition of Stoke at Elland Road on Monday ensured Farke’s team will be playing Premier League football next season.
While Farke’s immediate focus is on winning their final two matches to seal the Championship title, the German has expressed his desire to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level. He told the media: “Right now it’s important we have a clear budget and what we can spend. We will have to take some decisions in terms of contracts, extending or finishing some contracts – we need to have good decisions with the squad.

“We need a squad that’s competitive. Lots of work is ongoing, some improvements with training ground, planned pre-season fixtures and training camp, all of this has to be spot on. You want to finish strong, bring the [enthusiasm] of promotion into the next season. Important we have new signings relatively early and not the end of August. We try to affect this with good decisions.

“The next eight days will be concentrated on winning the title but we will also have lots of conversations about what’s necessary over coming weeks and months.”
Farke is adamant he has “no time to waste” on speculation on his Leeds United future and that he was not surprised to hear of the claims.
Reports earlier this week had claimed that the 49ers were considering Farke’s future amid concerns about his ability to keep the club in the top flight.

Farke – who is barely two years into a four-year contract – was relegated with Norwich City after his first promotion before being sacked upon the return two seasons later.
Leeds declined to comment when approached about the speculation but insiders underlined how focus is being placed on winning the title. Farke was about the reports on his future on Friday.
“It’s not surprising,” he said. “I knew exactly for which club I signed. It’s normally a good effort if you last three months in this club! You know when you sign a contract, you know there is a lot of pressure, a lot of noise and expectation.
“Often that someone is linked to follow in your footsteps. It’s nothing new or I wouldn’t expect. This club is so big.
“Journalists all over the country who have never spoken to one person within the club want to write about Leeds. If you want to deliver some news that are clicked sometimes they want to being some shock news, that’s quite normal.
“The big problem when in charge of this club and you take it personally or are distracted or are struggling with self-confidence. Then you can’t lead this club.

“It’s difficult and challenging, I don’t think the answer that the club – apart from Marcelo’s season – that why Leeds weren’t promoted was due to the players being hopeful or clueless.
“But to handle the rumours and expectations and gossip is not easy but I’m fully aware it happens on a weekly basis if you want to work for this club.
“I’m not 100% distracted. I’m just concentrated and focused to win the title. From today it’s back to work and to make sure we achieve the next step and make it an established Premier League club.”
