NBA legend checks in at Everton as Rangers eye up Toffees raid in wake of Kevin Thelwell swoop
The boardroom shake-up on Nerseyside continues following Thelwell’s decision to head to Ibr
It’s been a busy week in the boardroom for Everton – and one of the biggest names from the world of basketball has now jetted in from Stateside to join the party.
Following confirmation on Wednesday that Kevin Thelwell has left the club to take up a role as Rangers’ new director of football, the Premier League club have now made another high-profile appointment of their own.

The Toffees boardroom ranks have been boosted with the appointment of veteran US businessman and head of investment group Fayez Sarofim & Co Christopher Sarofim and they have now been joined by NBA legend Jason Kidd.

Kidd, who is the head coach of the NBA side Dallas Mavericks, has teamed up with Roundhouse Capital Holdings, part of The Friedkin Group that completed a takeover of Everton last year.
The 52-year-old is a 10-time NBA All-Star and was a part of the Dallas Mavericks team that won the NBA Championship in 2011.
The Merseyside club – who will move into their new state-of-the-art stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in the summer after 133 years at Goodison Park – will now be on the hunt for a new director of football following Thelwell’s switch to Ibrox.

And as exclusively revealed by Record Sport on Wednesday, he won’t be the only figure from the blue half of Liverpool to join Gers.
Thelwell is pushing hard to bring Everton’s academy director Gareth Prosser with him north of the border.
Prosser – who also worked with Thelwell at Wolves – has been identified as the man who can improve the productivity of Rangers youth academy and help bridge the gap between youth and first team level for the club’s hot prospects.

It comes in the wake of confirmation from Rangers that a takeover from the 49ers Enterprises consortium headed by Andrew Cavenagh – that was first exclusively revealed by Record Sport back in February – is edging closer.

Their statement on Wednesday read: “This statement is issued on behalf of Rangers Footbal Club [“Rangers”] and the consortium which is interested in acquiring control of the club [“The Consortium”].

“Rangers and its existing controlling shareholders are in productive conversations with the two lead members of the Consortium, Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group, about the potential for the Consortium to acquire control of the club and to inject additional capital.
“These discussions reflect a shared recognition of the importance of Rangers FC’s long-term direction, ambitions and management.”
