Carson Beck, the starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, recently underwent season-ending elbow surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament. The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, and Beck is expected to begin throwing again next spring.

Following his surgery, Beck announced his decision to enter the NFL draft, concluding his collegiate career at Georgia. Over his tenure, Beck achieved a 24-3 record as a starter, passing for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2023, and 3,485 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2024.

 

In Beck’s absence, sophomore quarterback Gunner Stockton has been named the starter for Georgia’s upcoming College Football Playoff quarterfinal against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl on January 1. Stockton stepped in during the SEC Championship game against Texas, completing 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards with one interception, and has been preparing with the first-team offense since Beck’s injury.

 

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart expressed confidence in Stockton’s abilities, noting the additional practice time has been beneficial for his development. Notre Dame’s head coach, Marcus Freeman, acknowledged Stockton’s athleticism and competitiveness, indicating that his presence will require adjustments by their defense.

 

As the Bulldogs transition to Stockton at quarterback, they aim to continue their pursuit of a national championship, building on the foundation established during Beck’s leade rship.
