Herry IP has an illustrious coaching career, having guided Olympic champions such as Tony Gunawan-Candra Wijaya and Hendra Setiawan-Markis Kido. He also mentored world-class pairs like Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.
BAM acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam emphasized that Herry will need time to assess the players and coaching staff before implementing any changes. Subramaniam stated, “Firstly, the coach has to sit and look at all the players under him, understand what are the strengths and weaknesses of each and every player as well as the coaches working under him.”
ABM coaching director Rexy Mainaky, who has known Herry since his early days as a shuttler, expressed confidence in Herry’s ability to elevate the national men’s doubles pairs. Mainaky mentioned that Herry is eager to work with former 2022 men’s doubles world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and explore ways to improve the world number six duo.
Herry’s appointment is part of BAM’s strategic plan to secure Malaysia’s first Olympic gold in badminton at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. His extensive experience and proven track record are expected to significantly contribute to achieving this long-standing national aspira tion.
