The Whites were keen on signing a new attacking midfielder last summer following the departure of Georginio Rutter to bolster their chances of earning promotion to the top-flight. They were ultimately unable to fill the gap, but managed to win the 2024/25 EFL Championship title anyway.

McAtee has made just three league starts this term, and he is thought to be in search of regular game time, which he may not be able to find at the Etihad stadium. The 22-year-old’s contract is set to expire next summer as things stand, and City would be wise to cash in on his services before he leaves on a free transfer.
